The PWI 500 list is always bullshit. This year is no different (although I would agree with the top 5).

He was probably the most consistent in-ring performer over the last year. Off the top of your head without searching the net, can you name a PPV match that he was in that wasn't good? I highly doubt it. He was the epitome of the word "champion" this past year. How can you not give the guy his due? He elevated the world title and with Flair's help, he became a solid t.v. character (which has always been the hardest thing for AJ to become). He deserves the top ranking. However, if CM Punk wasn't relegated to a worthless 8 minute 'Mania match, I would have given him the top spot as he was easily the most compelling wrestler of the past year.

I must be the only one who is shocked that The Miz is ranked #12. Look at a few of the guys he is ranked above: Rey Jr, Edge, Tyler Black, DrWagnerJr, Austin Aries, Christian, and Desmond Wolfe. That's just f'n ridiculous. The Miz must be blowing the PWI staff.

Davey Richards is ranked below The Miz, Sheamus, and Big Show...that tells you everything that you need to know about this list. Chris Hero is ranked below Rob Terry?!?! Simply absurd. Hero had the best year of his career and became someone that fans can count on to have a great match.

Kevin Nash is #53? Hilarious. When's the last time you saw him in a decent match? 1996-1997 when Scott Hall could still carry the team?

I don't agree with Styles at #1 since I don't even think he's the best wrestler in TNA. I would put Chris Jericho at #1 since this list has always given the top spot to someone who was a world champion that year, with the exception of the year Dean Malenko as US champion got it. But AJ is certainly better than 2010 WWE champions Cena, Sheamus, Kane, Jack Swagger, Edge, Batista, and Rey.

I'm shocked ROH isn't heavier in the top of the list. But indy promotions and indy workers usually have to kiss serious Apter ass (as ECW did quite a bit in the mid-90s to get great coverage in Apter mags) or grease some palms (as allegedly some indy workers have bought their way on to the bottom part of the list in the past.)

But a few questions:

#1 Who is using The Sheik name these days. Obviously the real Sheik died a few years ago and I don't think they mean Iron Sheik. Unless amusing Tweets count towards your rankings.

#2 I see Kimo listed, is that MMA fighter Kimo Leopoldo?

There's a guy that I know, Joey Eastman, who manages some Sheik guy. He's legit from the middle east and I'm told he's an excellent cook.

I've never seen his work, though.

Wasn't Eastman the guy who got Iron Sheik all that publicity for the Kramer stuff?

And I hope this guy has permission from Sabu to use the name. But I doubt it.

Who do you think is better in TNA? Personally I think Chris Sabin is as talented as A.J.

And I also know Joey Eastman. Small world. I do know that he and the Iron Sheik are pals.

Shannon Moore trained him, he works NWA Anarchy quite often.

And Bill Apter hasn't had anything to do with PWI for many years now.

chrislatimer2008, who is number 1 in your opinion? Obviously, this is all debatable depending on your own personal taste.

I don't agree with Styles at #1 since I don't even think he's the best wrestler in TNA.
Who do you think is better in TNA? Personally I think Chris Sabin is as talented as A.J.

Both Machine Guns, Angle, Wolfe, Williams, I all think have better matches than AJ. Not that I don't like him, he is very good (although I am sick to death of his Ric Flair Jr. gimmick because it just does not suit him one bit) but there are a bunch of better workers.

All of those guys are great and can outwork most guys on their "off" night but here are the reasons that I don't think they were ranked higher in the poll...

The Machine Guns are fantastic but tag team workers are rarely given high spots in the PWI poll. If they worked single matches all of the time, I believe they would get the proper recognition they deserve.

I really can't argue with your selection of Kurt Angle. He always has great matches and elevates EVERYONE he works with (even a bum like Matt Morgan). His feud with Ken Anderson should have been for the world title, IMO. Like you said, the top spot in the PWI 500 usually goes to a dominant world title holder.

Desmond Wolfe had a good year. But after his feuds with Angle, Dinero, and Abyss, it seemed like he was pushed aside and wasn't given another big feud to continue his rise to prominence. I think TNA messed up during his feud with Abyss because he didn't come out of that feud with any more heat than he went into it with...Chelsea was given the spotlight more than he was.

Douglas Williams is a solid performer but he really wasn't involved in a big personal feud. It was just him versus random X-Division guys.

With all of that being said, I just think that overall A.J. had the best complete year as a top main eventer.

Oh, I'm not arguing any of them deserved the top spot in the PWI list this year, just that they're better in the ring than AJ.

Honestly, it would be very difficult for me to decide who was the best overall wrestler from these selections (just based on pure in-ring work, leaving out storylines)...A.J., Angle, Sabin, Shelley, and Wolfe. Especially considering that on any given night, anyone of them can steal the show.

You can never go wrong with Kurt Angle, even with all of the mileage on his body. No one can really even debate the selection of Kurt Angle because he is so damn great. Dare I say...greatest ever? And I'm not talking about ticket sales, simply talking about ability.
